Project Overview
This project was developed as part of a school project in the second year of my apprenticeship. I deepened my skills in game design and its conception and developed a physical game. In collaboration with Oli Sonderegger, Luc Wyss and Jana Schuppisser, I developed a concept for the game «Kater», created the design and had the game printed. The goal of the game is to get rid of all your cards, even if you have to lie to do so.
Goals
The goal of the assignment was to conceive and design a phyical game. This also included the creation of a designed game prototype including instructions and packaging.
Process
As a group, we started by brainstorming and defining an idea. We tested this using a paper prototype, obtained feedback from others and worked out the idea. We repeated this two times. Once the concept and idea had been worked out, we designed and finalized the game. You can read more about our decisions and considerations in our documentation.

Review
The biggest challenge was to get the game into a flow. We uncovered several difficulties through the many testing iterations. These ranged from «too many cards in hand» to «not daring to lie». So we adapted the rules as we went along and ended up with the finished card game.

Final result
The result is a deck of cards with the numbers 1-6, each of which is available four times. There are also three action cards, each available twice. To this day, we still play the game at game-evenings and get exactly the flow that we have been working on for so long. Want to play a round of KATER?
